Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications Appointment

Dear Rutgers University–New Brunswick and RBHS Colleagues:               

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Hollingshead to the position of Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications. Ms. Hollingshead is a veteran marketer and communicator who has spent the majority of her 20-year career in higher education and health care, most recently in the private sector.  She will join Rutgers University in February.

The Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications has a dual reporting relationship with both chancellors of Rutgers–New Brunswick and RBHS, serving as a key strategic advisor and member of our respective cabinets. The position is responsible for leading day-to-day marketing and communications efforts and building long-term organization-wide strategies to advance our missions, accomplishments, vision, and values. 

Ms. Hollingshead spent ten years at the University of Missouri in various roles, including as the chief communications officer for the university president, vice presidents, and board of curators where she communicated the value of public higher education to statewide constituents.  She also served as marketing manager for University of Missouri Health, the university's academic medical center, elevating the health system's brand through aligning its research and clinical missions. As interim vice chancellor of marketing and communications at the University of Missouri, the system’s flagship campus, she worked to enhance the campus' reputation among multiple stakeholders nationwide.

Most recently, Hollingshead served as vice president at Prairie Dog I TCG, a national health care marketing agency in Kansas City, Mo., where she worked with hospitals and health systems of all sizes to help them differentiate themselves in an increasingly complex and dynamic health care environment. She also has worked in marketing at a private liberal arts college in Columbia. Mo., as well as a statewide insurance company and in municipal government. She began her career as a newspaper reporter at the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Hollingshead earned her MBA from Columbia College in Columbia, as well as bachelor's degrees in journalism and sociology from the University of Missouri. She also enjoys teaching college-level marketing courses focusing on the transformational power of effective marketing.

Lastly, as we welcome Ms. Hollingshead to Rutgers, we also acknowledge and thank Mary Baglivo for her contributions as the inaugural Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications. We have a great opportunity to build on the strong platform that Mary established. Our goal is to demonstrate to the wider world the tremendous impact that Rutgers’ flagship campus and its academic health center have on our students, patients, and the communities we serve, and we look forward to Ms. Hollingshead’s contributions to these efforts.
