July 3, 2013
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Felicia E. McGinty as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for the New Brunswick campus, effective August 1, 2013. Dr. McGinty, a seasoned student affairs professional with over 20 years of experience in higher education, most recently served as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and before that as Associate Vice President for Student Engagement at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park. No stranger to the East Coast, Felicia was also Assistant Vice President for Students Affairs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and Director of the New Student Experience at Montclair State University.
At UC Santa Cruz, Felicia was responsible for student affairs and auxiliary services for over 16,500 students, with an annual budget of over $150 million and with oversight of more than 900 employees. Areas under her leadership included admissions and enrollment management; early outreach and college preparation programs; learning support services; student activities; career and resource centers; intercollegiate athletics, recreation, and wellness; student health and counseling; residential and dining services; and university housing. Felicia’s areas of particular professional interest and expertise encompass student recruitment, retention, and graduation; academic advising; first year programs; counseling and psychological services; and the creation of climates of support for diverse student populations.
Dr. McGinty has developed and taught courses on First Year Success, Critical Thinking, and Academic and Personal Development, all designed to assist new students in transitioning to college, and on increasing retention rates in traditionally vulnerable populations. Over the course of her career she has worked in close partnership with faculty, fellow administrators, and alumni, as well as with students, to help create a holistic positive experience for all. She has extensive budgetary and strategic planning experience, and is looking forward to joining us at this most exciting time in the university’s history.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Felicia E. McGinty to Rutgers.
