Members of the Rutgers–New Brunswick Community:

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mary Lou Ortiz as vice chancellor for finance at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. She will serve as our chief financial officer and report to me and to senior vice president for finance Michael Gower. She began her tenure at Rutgers this week.

As vice chancellor, Ms. Ortiz will manage the university’s financial and related administrative operations. She will make recommendations to me as chancellor to ensure the fiscal health and administrative efficiency and effectiveness of Rutgers University–New Brunswick. She will also work closely with Senior Vice President Gower to strengthen the accounting and finance functions within Rutgers Universtiy–New Brunswick. In these capacities, she will play a key role in the full implementation of the Responsibility Center Management model across the Rutgers system.

Ms. Ortiz brings remarkable talent and administrative experience to this new position. She most recently served as the inaugural director of finance and resource administration for Princeton University’s recently created University Services division, overseeing the division’s business, IT, human resources, and communications functions. Prior to her role at Princeton, she was senior director of budget and financial planning for the International Rescue Committee, developing a $400 million annual operating budget for the agency. She also served in a number of business and finance positions in 16 years at Columbia University. Ms. Ortiz holds an M.B.A., an M.P.A., and a bachelor’s degree from Columbia.

I look forward to working with Mary Lou Ortiz as we pursue our bold ambitions for Rutgers University–New Brunswick and address important fiscal challenges. Please join me in welcoming her to Rutgers.
